Franchu’s lair

• Hotel: Hotel Jauregui in the city center of Hondarribia. The city is really really small, so more or less everything can be considered to be in the center The hotel is very nice, friendly staff, nice bathroom and most important of all free wifi that works really well. The breakfast is good and has a nice selection of pastries and cakes as well as the typical food of a continental breakfast. The second night I slept in Hotel Jaizkibel a little bit farther from the city center (5 mins walk when you know where you have to go ). The second hotel is more posh, with more modern design but all in all the price difference does not translate into an improvement of the stay. This hotel has wired Internet access, but only provides short Ethernet cables, so either bring your own or you are stuck with working with your laptop only in the little desk of the room.

• Meal: For lunch we went to a butzoki next to the airport whose name I cannot remember, and during the night we went for pintxos in San Sebastian and Hondarribia. In Hondarribia we went for pintxos to a bar called Gran Sol, which is one of the places that has won those last years the national pintxos’ contest. It is in the street parallel to the hotel Jauregui. Then we went for some other pintxos to another place called Itxaropena, 50 m from the previous one. The second night we went for some pintxos in a bar in the corner in front of Hotel Jauregui. It was full of people and had a friendly atmosphere inside.

• Sightseeing: We went for a short walk in the center of San Sebastián (around 20 Km far from Hondarribia) and we saw the famous beaches of La Concha and Gros, The sight of the waves crashing into the coast was a great experience and a walk next to the sea always leaves you more quiet and relaxed. In Hondarribia it is definitely worth a walk in the old town quarter, it will take you no more than 30 mins to see it all and there are some nice streets to walk by and discover. It is also interesting to get inside the Parador to see an old fortress with medieval banners hanging from the walls. It would be quite expensive to stay there for the night, but as sightseeing is for free, why shouldn’t we enjoy it?
