Inspirational video
Some time ago, I watched this video and it for sure touched me.
Just to put it in perspective, Dr Randy Pausch was diagnosed in August 2007 with metastatic pancreatic cancer and to expect a remaining three to six months of good health. The video is the now famously named “last lecture”.
In the Humor Power blog they did a pretty good analysis of the video, out of which I would highlight the following.
- Have fun in now.
- Often, the more serious the topic, the more appropriate it is to use humor.
- Be conversational
- Original stories are powerful, in this case he talks about his life.
- Photos and video clips are worth 1000 words.
- Know your limits: “I’m not going to talk about my wife and kids.”
- Know the parameters of your talk: “I’m not going to talk about spirituality.”
But the best of all is the close. You see the video coming to an end, and the presentation is still going at full speed. Then he pulls of the closing in 27 seconds, and I have to admit that it really touched me. Even more because you realise that he was really meaning it and it was not a speaker trick.
If you have 1 hour and 25 minutes I promise you that you will enjoy every minute of it.
If you want to stay updated on his health progress, you can check his news website. From here I want to wish him all the best!
